Let me introduce you to my little, Des. Miss. Des is in grade 4 and turns 9 in a few weeks. For the past year and a half we’ve gone on bike rides, painted our nails, messed up the kitchen making pizzas, and attended the odd matinee. She loves ice cream more than I do, which makes up for her being a “cat” person.
September is Big Brothers Big Sisters month. Becoming a mentor is a very rewarding experience. We both bring a positive presence into one another’s lives. It is a self development program, not only for the youth. As much as I am a role model to her, she is to me. A constant reminder that no matter what is going on in this fast paced life; there is always time to take in the simplest of moments and to find joy in them. I am proud to be a part of this program, and encourage any of you to get involved within your own community.
